COLUMBUS, Ohio -- State officials say 116,798 white-tailed deer were killed by Ohio hunters last week during the state's weeklong gun season. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife said Monday that compares with 103,195 killed last year. Hunters in Tuscarawas county brought the most deer to Ohio check stations, with 5,862. The statewide deer population was estimated to be 700,000 in late September. About 400,000 hunters were expected to participate in deer-gun season. Last season, 232,854 deer were harvested during adult and youth gun season, muzzleloader season, and archery season. Hunters have been encouraged to kill more does this season and donate extra venison to the needy. The wildlife division and Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry are helping pay for processing of donated venison. |

aint that the trueth , it seems even a good kind gesture gets ripped on by the socialist liberals , well , id say those hunters need lessons - 400000 hunters -100000 dead deer , thats not too good a shooting average by my menmtal math ,  bet hailstone doesnt miss that kinda percentage - but then hes planning to survive on his shots  , i supose that might make a diferance

....aint allowed to go shootin' a lot of places...too much 'civilization'.....Ohio is a lot smaller than hailstone's back yard...

OK , guess yaall will just haveta hit them with your cars  like we do up here , trip to iowa last weekend - i bet i saw 300 dead ones in the median and the ditches , not all fresh enough for dinner mind ya , but road kill just the same |

....oldest son already wacked one earlier-almost totaled his Cavalier....deer doo-doo- ALL over what wasnt crunched up... ....I've wacked 5 over the years....wifey has had 2 close encounters-one of which hit HER,not the other way around-every time was major $$$ to fix,even WITH insurance... ....youngest daughter is the only one that hasnt had the 'experience'.....yet....

Once apon a time, we were sitting eating cinnimen rolls and drinking coffee, waiting for our dad who was off getting gas. The whole resteraunt watched a mule Deer Doe get flipped over a small Corralla car. Th ewhole rsteraunt graoned when it hit the pavement and tryed to hobble off with two broken legs. Then , as one again, they picked up to a hushed wisper as my dad emerged between two trucks with a big rock in his hands. Again, as one, the whole resteraunt inhaled with gasp, and went dead silent, as my dad beat the Deer with two good wacks with the rock knocking it out and a spray of blood splat with the third and final blow, the Deers head against the pavment and the hollow sound of its skull crushing. Like a cheap caveman horror movie, my dad glanced up and caught my eye, and with a blood sprayed smille, drug the now dead deer away by its rear leg , bloody rock in hand....dissapearing between the parked trucks. The resteraunt went wild!  Not that anyone dissagreed, it was ALL just sudden and very unexpacted , with these 3 10X6 foot windows for everyone to see, about 10 feet above the slope of the parking lot. We jumped up ad payed for breakfast , before Dad came to do it, and ran to him. He was smiling, gutting the Deer, and the Highway Patrol guy came and thanked my dad for doing so. It went in the HP trunk to a Bums Cafe' for lunch, I guess. As we pulled out of the parking lot at least 10 people were staring hard at us..........ohhhhhhh

A road kill here the LEO would give you a permit and you put the deer in your trunk. The person driving the car that hit it has first choice. Rad |

Same in Nebr - you can get a "liquidation permit" from a game warden. One would hope for a deer that wasn't too liquid, though!  I tried to give a road kill deer to a rest home one time... Offered to do the lion's share of the processing... they said they couldn't take it because it wasn't inspected meat. Hell, I would bet big the old folks had eaten more venison than the rest of the town put together! And it would have been SO much more satisfying than the inspected "mystery meat" schools & rest home have to serve. SW |

Back in the mid 70s the herd here was only around 100,000 and we had a 3 day gun season and one buck only. That was just the SE part of the state. The state is divided into 3 zones with bag limits of: zone #1 2 deer, 1 antlerless permit good till start of gun, 1 any deer rest of season, zone #2 just double #1, zone #3 three time #1 and can be combined with urban permits for a total of 7 deer BUT only 1 buck.
